WEATHER: System developing in the region

(Tumon, Guam) A weather system of clouds, rain and wind is developing near the equator and southeast of the Marshall Islands. At 6 a.m. (ChST), it was located at 3.0º N and 178.0º E, or 2,416 miles east-southeast of Guam. The system is called Invest 97W at this point.

According to meteorologist Will Weaver, "An area of low pressure is located northeast of Tarawa Atoll and is producing a large cluster of showers and thunderstorms. Some slow development of this system is possible as it moves west-northwestward toward the Marshall Islands during the next several days. Interests in those islands should monitor the progress of this system."
