Senate receives Cenzon's appointment

By Nancy I. Maanao

President Trump yesterday sent the U.S. Senate his appointment of Superior Court Judge Maria Cenzon to replace Frances Tydingco-Gatewood as chief judge of the U.S. District Court of Guam. Late last night, the Senate referred the appointment to the Senate Judiciary Committee, to dispense with the confirmation process.

Ms. Cenzon must be confirmed by the Senate before the next Congress sits in January.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is chaired by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who has been one of Mr. Trump's fiercest defenders in Congress.

If Ms. Cenzon is confirmed in time, she will have to vacate her local bench, creating an opportunity for Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero to appoint a new judge.
