Sealed federal case assigned to Washington judge; another sealed warrant issued

By Nancy I. Maanao

The federal government has been busy over the past two weeks busting drug dealers from north to south on Guam. Several raids have been reported from Yigo to Merizo, most occurring on March 24, 2021.

It was on that day the U.S. Attorney for Guam and the NMI filed a criminal case, 21-CR-00004, which was sealed from public view. Three sealed warrants were filed in the two days preceding the criminal case, and four more filed on the same day. Another sealed warrant was filed just today in federal court.

The criminal case took a couple of odd turns following its filing. First, its docket shows the case was unsealed, though access is denied to the files. Second, the case was assigned to a judge out of Washington, D.C., Senior Judge John C. Coughenor.

Judge Coughenor has presided over trials in the U.S. District Court of Guam before. All of them involved drug dealers.
