NEWS: Adelup's censorship moves from media to protestors; protest continues Monday at 5:30 p.m.

By Jacob Nakamura

(Adelup, Guam) At about 10 a.m. today a group of protestors trying to get Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero's attention on the Front Lawn of the Ricardo J. Bordallo Governor's Complex in Adelup were told by police that they couldn't park or protest there. They want her removed from office.

Police set up a barricade to the entrance of the Front Lawn and screened cars going in. If you were there to protest, you couldn't enter.

Adelup is reeling from a public relations nightmare caused by its muting of reporters three Thursdays ago during a news conference. Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio apologized for the administration's lack of transparency, and called on governor's staff assistant Carlo Branch and communications director Janela Carrera to apologize. Mr. Branch did, followed by Ms. Leon Guerrero herself. Ms. Carrera still hasn't said a word about her part in the matter.

Now Adelup is censoring protestors by not allowing them on public grounds fronting the Governor's Office.

Among the protestors today was Sen. Jim Moylan, whose letters to the governor, requests for information, and solutions offered have fallen on deaf ears. He was there to protest the governor's conduct of the public health emergency, and to fight for pay that government front liners are entitled to under the law.

"The governor is withholding this pay from these front liners, and it's just not right," Mr. Moylan said.

Denise Pangelinan, one of the organizers of the protest said she and her family have had enough of the governor. "I don't expect her to come down from her high horse and address us commoners because she's a coward," she said.

Ms. Pangelinan and Sandra Reyes, the other organizer, braved the midday sun on the sidewalk of Route 1 fronting the complex, after crossing the street without the benefit of a working cross walk signal.

The protest will resume Monday at 5:30 p.m. Ms. Pangelinan and Ms. Reyes welcome everyone to join them.
