GPD to carbon date skull found at Adelup; no murder cases opened since yesterday

By Johnnie Rosario

Police want the University of Guam to carbon date the skull found along the Adelup coast line to determine whether it is an ancestral remain. This is according to Guam Police Department spokesman Sgt. Paul Tapao, who also confirmed GPD has not opened a murder investigation as a result of the skull finding, yet.

Mr. Tapao said detectives first want to know how old the skull is, considering the possibility it washed up on shore, or was unearthed by erosion.

He could not answer whether police have gathered DNA samples of any missing persons to compare against the skull.

The skull remains in the custody of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The island utilizes the services of the CME from Saipan once a week, according to Mr. Tapao.

The investigation into the skull remains with GPD's Criminal Investigation Division.
