Babauta: Enough with the cronyism! Build a hospital, power plant, and water system for the CNMI!

CNMI House Rep. Celina Roberto Babauta did not mince words in a public post, where she opined how Gov. Ralph Torres should use more than half a billion dollars in federal direct aid to the Commonwealth government:

  1. A new, state-of-the-art public hospital

  2. A power plant

  3. A reliable water system

The congresswoman expressed her distrust of the Torres administration, and her hope that with the arrival of federal monies that can literally change and save lives in the Commonwealth, the money will not be squandered through corruption.

Here is her full statement:

"Our world has changed. With the dramatic increase in the availability of outside money, our democracy is a shell of what it once was. The governor will basically inform his inner circle that 'you are free to make money under my watch.'
"With the threat of federal investigations of money laundering against him, his family and their inner circle, hanging over their heads, this get-rich-quick scheme will soon flame out due to scandal. Mark my words!
"Of significant and relevant priority SHOULD BE, among others, is a State-of-the-art Hospital, a new power plant and improving our water system in the CNMI so that we would have potable water from our taps."
